Summary
Museum Cataloguing (can be combined with other roles in the Museum)
Detailed description
Cataloguers help keep track of the Museum's collection by describing, organising and recording details about each item. Duties involve:
- Describing objects: Noting important details about each object eg where it's from, how old it is and who owned it before.
- Using MODES computer system to store and update information about the collection.
- Labelling items: Assigning reference numbers or labels to each object so that everything is easy to find.
Skills needed are:
- Attention to detail
- Good organisation
- IT skills. It's helpful to know how to use computers but full training in the use of the MODES system is provided.
Cataloguing takes place when the Museum is not open to the public, ie Mondays and Fridays and throughout the Winter.
About Minehead Museum
Minehead Museum is a small local museum in the heart of Minehead. It invites visitors to the town and local residents to find out about the fascinating history of Minehead and Alcombe. Exhibits include a Hobby Horse, a scale model of the pier that was taken down in WW2, information about the Great Fire of Minehead, Arthur C Clark and much more. The Museum is staffed and managed entirely by volunteers and new volunteers are always welcome.
