Detailed description
The lifeblood of the Harry's Hydro charity is our phenomenal team of volunteer water testers. Without them it would be very difficult for the hydrotherapy pool to continue operating which it has done successfully for 13 years.
What does it involve?
This is not rocket science and is a very basic and straightforward procedure. The test involves filling a small bottle with water from the pool, adding little test tablets to the water and then putting the bottle into a water test machine. The tester then pushes a button on the machine and writes the reading on the display onto the paper water test monitoring sheet.
At the same time that they are in the pool building we ask our lovely testers to visually check various items to make sure that everything is operating as it should.
Each visit lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Each fortnight I reach out to our team of volunteers by email and ask them what their availability will be to do any tests over the following two weeks. We are particularly looking for early Birds who thrive in mornings on weekdays or at weekends!
Full training is provided at the pool on a one-to-one basis. We can arrange the DBS check.
If you decide to volunteer with us you will be supporting over 400 of the less able members of our local community - many of whom and their families regard their Hydro session as the highlight of their week! We would love to welcome you on board.

About Harry's Hydro
Harry's Hydro is a small local charity that built and runs a community Hydrotherapy pool in Frome, Somerset for those with disabilities, sensory, behavioural or learning difficulties, a life threatening illness (e.g. cancer) or a limiting condition (e.g. rheumatism or fibromyalgia). It is available to all ages, from babies to the elderly.
Hydrotherapy is physiotherapy undertaken in an environment of warm water and high air temperature, the combination of which relaxes the patient and eases pain, which frees the user to move in ways they cannot on land. The pool and environment at these warm temperatures is also very effective for those with learning difficulties as it satisfies and calms their sensory needs thus allowing them to use the more complex thinking and communication parts of the brain.
We are adjacent to Critchill School on Nunney Road.
The pool is in memory of local boy Harry Fox who died aged 13 months.
