This is an opportunity for anyone with lived experience of raising children with any additional need, disability or sensitivity to support our facilitator at our monthly meet-up.

FLOC exists to end isolation for parents and carers of children with SEND. FLOC is built on lived experience: parents who know what it’s like to navigate long diagnosis waits, complex systems, and emotional exhaustion. Our mission is simple — connection changes everything. By bringing families together, FLOC helps them strengthen wellbeing, feel empowered, and support their children’s development with clarity and hope.

Our meet‑up supporters are parents or carers who help create a warm, safe, and inclusive space where SEND families can connect. Our supporters welcome attendees, represent our organisation and help everyone feel like they belong. Our supporters are neutral and empathetic. Their role is to listen, not to “fix” or advise, and to help parents feel less alone by fostering genuine connection and shared understanding.

What volunteer Supporters gain:

  • Community‑based training — skills in peer support and active listening.
  • Confidence in supporting others.
  • A strong sense of belonging — joining a warm, lived‑experience community of SEND parents and carers who truly “get it.”
  • Personal growth — developing emotional resilience, self‑awareness and reflective practice.
  • Purpose and impact — knowing you’re helping families feel less isolated and more supported.
  • Ongoing support — regular check‑ins, supervision, and connection with the wider FLOC team.
  • Recognition of lived experience — your own journey becomes a strength that helps others.
  • Opportunities to grow — chances to develop into a facilitator role or contribute to wider FLOC projects.
