Summary

Could you give up to an hour a week to chat to a caregiver of someone experiencing mental ill-health to help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation?

Detailed description

You can make a real difference for people who are supporting a friend or family member who is struggling with their mental health.

Being there for someone in this situation can sometimes be overwhelming and can lead to caregivers feeling isolated, having concerns over their own mental health and not knowing what help is available.

We want to make sure they have the services and support they need and you can help us do that.

Your lived experience is so important in helping people find support that will help and having someone to talk to who they know understands.

We're working with the Open Mental Health alliance in Somerset to improve support available for caregivers and you will play an important role that includes:

  • helping us to better understand the challenges caregivers face
  • drawing on your experience to suggest the type of support and services that are needed most
  • phoning caregivers for a friendly chat each week
  • helping with caregivers' groups or mentoring
  • helping to develop our directory of support services and training.

OUR CARERS SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS ARE:

  • passionate about supporting Carers
  • good listeners
  • motivated and reliable
  • able to keep safe and accurate records of calls made
  • able to provide a supportive and non judgemental service
  • willing to engage in training and development as required
  • able to maintain confidentiality.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US:

  • a great volunteer experience where you can meet new people
  • the chance to develop your skills
  • excellent support from a dedicated line manager.
  • a full induction to the role
  • access to an online platform with tools and resources
  • expenses paid inline with our policy
  • mobile phone
  • a paid for DBS check.
