Summary

Be part of the team of instructors and volunteers making exciting things happen once a month on the second Wednesday afternoon of the month.

Detailed description

Carers Groups give unpaid carers of friends and family members the opportunity to take a much needed break, socialise with other carers, and find out how to access local information, resources and other sources of support.

This new group combines gentle movement and creative activities for the cared for, run by a qualified instructor whilst the carers can chat and receives useful updates and information about their role as a carer.

Love to Move is an age and dementia friendly seated exercise programme.

The programme has its roots taken from gymnastics and uses specially designed coordination and bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns, which are thought to have the effect of increasing a person’s cognitive reserve.

We need someone to lead the carer group and one or two people to support the instructor with the cared for who may be elderly, have learning or physical disability.

Tasks will include:

  • Giving a warm welcome to the carers attending the group
  • Chatting to the members of the group, providing peer support and comfort
  • Undertake a small level of training
  • Sharing new information
  • Booking speakers with support

Volunteers supporting the exercise group will be asked to

support the instructor using demonstration and verbal encouragement.

Monitor the attendees and ask for support from the carers if required.

Be able to adapt to the needs of the attendees and support where needed.

Undertake some online training.

This is a fun, friendly and sociable role and there is support through out.
