Wildlife Watch Helpers

Wildlife Watch is the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts and is the UK's leading club for young environmentalists. Local Watch Clubs run a varied programme of fun environmental and wildlife focused activities aimed at 6–12-year-olds, with children attending accompanied by their parents or guardians.

Across the UK hundreds of adult volunteers are dedicated to running Wildlife Watch groups where children can have lots of fun, and make new friends, whilst they develop a real understanding and commitment to the natural environment.

We’re looking for Helpers to support a Wildlife Watch group by helping with planning and delivering activities suitable for children and their families.

Leaders are responsible for the overall running of the group including the risk assessments, planning, advertising events and working with your team of Helpers to deliver a great session.

Helpers support the group Leader with planning, prep and delivering activities.

We’re looking for people from all walks of life but there are a few qualities we look for in every Wildlife Watch volunteer:

• An enthusiasm for wildlife and the natural world (but you don’t need to be an expert!)
• An enthusiasm for working with young people and ability to relate to and talk to young people at their level 
• To be organised and happy to take on the responsibility for planning and leading safe and enjoyable sessions
• The ability to work well with other adults and share tasks as a team
• Use of creative ideas to make sessions interesting and engaging
• Experience of working with young people would be a benefit to this role
• A sense of fun

• East Mendip Wildlife Watch Group, near Shepton Mallet (not recruiting for volunteers)
• Nettlecombe Court Wildlife Watch Group, near Williton (not recruiting for volunteers)
• North Brewham Wildlife Watch Group, near Bruton (not recruiting for volunteers)
• Taunton Wildlife Watch Group (recruiting for HELPERS)
• Yeovil Wildlife Watch Group, near South Petherton (recruiting for HELPERS)
• Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea (recruiting for HELPERS)

This is a great way to get involved with the work of the Wildlife Trust and to encourage young people to take an active interest in wildlife and the natural environment.
