We are looking for volunteers who can take a creative, flexible and patient approach, who are willing to work independently, and who have a good understanding of professional boundaries. This role gives you the opportunity to broaden your experience of ESOL delivery in relation to forced migration and refugee resettlement.
You will link with other active volunteers supporting the family as well as the Somerset County Council Resettlement Team.
This opportunity gives you the chance to use your knowledge to build competence and confidence for those who are new to the United Kingdom, enabling them to become more independent and to settle well.
You will need to be able to offer a minimum of 1 hour of face to face support per week as well as 1 - 2 hours per week of preparation time. The sessions will be delivered in their home or in a community setting, during office hours. The length of a session and frequency is variable and can depend on your availability and the service user’s needs and ability.
If you do not have a ESOL, TEFL or CELTA qualification we will also consider those with a teaching background In this case, you would be linked with a qualified ESOL teacher who can offer guidance and resources to support the work you do with the service user.
