Gardening Volunteer – NAS services Somerset
We are looking for people 18+ who have some spare time and would like to give back time to the local community, by supporting gardening activities in our 33 acre grounds, initially tidy the garden area and then keep on top of the gardening jobs. We want to work on our allotments as well as providing a sensory area for autistic people You don’t need a lot of gardening knowledge just skills and experience just energy and enthusiasm to muck in. This role would suit anyone over the age of 18. Interested in participating in a wide range of gardening activities volunteering with autistic adults who need help to develop their social skills, helping them learn how to build a social relationship and make friends, help them to develop their interests and hobbies. What you will be doing This role will include a wide range of gardening tasks including General garden maintenance Planting and pruning Weeding Looking after the tools, cleaning and putting them away at the end of the day Provide advice on planting, what grows well where and when to plant etc Supporting the people who come to the centre with gardening tasks Develop new skills and meet new people Share your knowledge and experience Satisfaction of making a difference in your local community and to the lives of children on the autism spectrum A worthwhile achievement that you can add to your CV Whilst we are able to make reasonable adjustments for volunteers you will need to be able to volunteer independently as we are not able to offer one to one support. We seek applications from anyone interested in the role, but particularly welcome applications from those with a diagnosis of autism or Asperger syndrome Minimum 2-3 hours each week we can be flexible on days and times during the times the centre is open – days, early evenings and weekends Based at The NAS Centre, Somerset
