Detailed description
The Circles of Protection service supports isolated, vulnerable adults with learning disabilities who live outside their home borough. As a volunteer, you would be paired with a person with learning disabilities, who lives in a residential home, supported by staff. For many of our service users, a Circles of Protection Befriender is the only non-paid person they would be in contact with. Typical tasks undertaken include: · Emotional support; chatting and listening to the service user · Companionship: sharing activities with the service user such as going to a café, or a walk in a park · Helping us to safeguard the service user; reporting any concerns you may have to the co-ordinator Volunteers do not provide personal care, advice, or cleaning. Key responsibilities · Visit a service user every fortnight in his/her home · Provide support within the boundaries of the role · Adhere to Islington Council’s policies, including Safeguarding Adults and Equal Opportunities · Report incidents or concerns to the Circles of Protection Co-ordinator · Attend training · Making an important contribution to a person’s life · Developing your understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities · Enhancing your CV and improving your career prospects · Travel expenses covered · References upon request (after 3 months of volunteering) Visit a service user every fortnight
