SummaryAre you someone who likes connecting with others through one to one contact? We’ll be asking you to phone a few people who may need some reassurance.
As a Peer Contact Volunteer, you will be working one to one with individuals who have registered for one of our external courses. They may find they have to wait a little while for the course to start and may during this time, be feeling nervous and out of the loop. They may have some concerns about attending the course and also using Zoom.
Your role would be to make regular weekly phone calls to them, providing support from someone who understands. We hope you will be able to help them overcome any concerns. In addition to the regular phone contact prior to the course starting, there may be a need to support them (on Zoom) for up to 4 sessions of the course.
Bringing your lived experience, you will have the desire to support and encourage others on their individual recovery journeys. You will be able to clearly draw upon and share, your own experiences of mental health challenge and services in order to inspire, model, and inform others in similar situations and support them in finding their own path to recovery.
The best person for this role will be warm and creative, who is good at being organised and can link well with our members with compassion, patience and empathy. You’ll be good at negotiating with a range of different people and be able to share personal experiences of mental health and recovery to support, empower and bring hope to others.
You will need to be confident using Zoom so that you can advise them on how to use it prior to the course.
It would also be great if you good knowledge of person-centred practice and perhaps experience of Health and Safety Risk Assessment and practice.
This role is only available to volunteers who have undertaken the Peer Induction training run by Watch.
About Chard WATCH CIC
We give members an elevated sense of confidence and empowerment by enabling them to take their own positive steps… Change comes from within, and we help people take their first steps to fulfill their potential.
Founded in 2010 by members, we have built the project around our lived experience to help reach out and engage with other isolated and lonely people in the community. Social isolation/anxiety is getting worse, we can help remove the barriers & restore faith in your community.
Social isolation affects so many people, and we have members from all walks of life: adults with mental health issues; elderly; minority groups; young adults isolated; physical disabilities, adults recovering from dependency of alcohol or substance abuse – anyone who feels alone.
WATCH is part of the Somerset Open Mental Health Network (OMHN) which is formed with community Mental Health partner organisations and the NHS Somerset Foundation Trust. As a partner we specialise in Peer Support that will benefit all the OMHN services and be of benefit to individuals in their recovery and maintaining wellbeing. There are peer worker roles within the OMHN for people with lived experience who feel able to support others.
